Understanding Finance & Managing Costs (Core)

This course introduces participants to the language of finance and seeks to provide understanding of the key elements of good financial management and cost control. The course is designed to equip participants with the understanding and the confidence they need to interpret financial reports and information, in order to inform business and operational decisions and to improve financial performance of the business.

As a result of understanding the concepts and language of finance, participants will be equipped to make better informed and more strategic contributions to management discussions and business finance decisions and to develop cost effective responses to business challenges.

General Course Aims: 

• Understanding financial jargon
• Recognising and understanding the key elements to good financial management
• Reading financial statements
• Assessing financial viability and performance
• Developing confidence in communicating regarding financial matters
• Appreciating the importance and the elements of monetary control within an organisation
• Becoming familiar with the time value of money

In order to meet the requirements for accreditation, particpants will be required to submit an Assignment and sit a Written Examination (this takes place during the Course). The due date for all assessments to be submitted is 6 November 2011.

This is Level 6, FETAC minor award (Finance - L32494) and a component of the Major Award Advanced Certificate in Management (BMANX).
