Employment Law (Elective)

This self-directed online course equips managers, team leaders and supervisors to understand and be able to comply with legislation governing working conditions, terms of employment, contracts, equality and discrimination and good people management.

By the end of the course participants will better understand the legal obligations their organisation faces and be better equipped to ensure compliance and encourage good employment practices, thereby minimising the potential exposure of the business to time consuming legal difficulties.

General Course Aims: 
  • Develop an understanding of the sources of and rationale behind Irish employment law
  • Be able to explain the impact current legislation has on the key aspects of employment practice
  • Demonstrate detailed knowledge of the characteristics of a contract of employment
  • Appreciate the role of the law in regulating working conditions and promoting fairness, equality and best practice
  • Demonstrate awareness of the practices and procedures relating to disciplinary matters
  • Describe types of legal provisions relating to discrimination
  • Appreciate how the law has develop to grant family friendly rights to employees
  • Appreciate the legal significance of HR policies and procedures, particularly in relation to disputes or legal action

    In order to meet the requirements for accreditation, particpants will be required to submit an Assignment and a Project and sit a Written Exam. The due date for all assessments to be submitted is 7 November 2011.

    This is Level 6, FETAC minor award (Employment Law - L32491) and a component of the Major Award Advanced Certificate in Management (BMANX).
